Finally checked out the TAKASHI YAMAZAKI directed film PARASYTE based on the manga (which I haven't read). It's pretty entertaining in how the silly premise contrasts with the serious tone, and the VFX are decent enough. But the plotting has this peculiar naiveness about it - presenting lofty themes but confining them into a high school setting. We'll see if part 2 can grow out of this.
