So I made a last minute choice to drag Minami out to the Arclight Hollywood to see MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS projected in 70mm because I had this notion that this could very well be the last of its kind (probably/hopefully not, but certainly could be). Unfortunately the screen size was standard & the projection itself just looked like 35mm BUT the texture of the film stock really set the tone of this period mystery & did well to blend the more obvious fx shots. More importantly I was very impressed with how they adapted the book & I appreciated the sharp emotional & racial embellishments that were present but not necessarily the focus of the book. But I do highly recommend reading the book before enjoying the movie - A. Christie is a good writer but prolific in the sheer number of characters & plotting she can juggle without missing a beat. So at times the movie can appear to abruptly jump or skip forward. #sseig
